me and Hippocrates at Cedars

The most gratifying work I do as a musician and singer is being part of the Music for Healing Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, California. I have been part of this volunteer program for about three years and it has been my privilege to sing for hundreds of patients. It is a profound experience to make music for someone who is ill and to witness how much comfort, pleasure, and therapy can be evoked and shared.

BUT IF THERE IS NO OTHER WORLD
AND THERE IS NO FRUIT
AND RIPENING OF ACTIONS
WELL DONE OR ILL DONE
THEN HERE AND NOW IN THIS LIFE
I SHALL BE FREE FROM
HOSTILITY, AFFLICTION, AND ANXIETY
AND I SHALL LIVE HAPPILY

I began this community service work after my perspective on life changed following a major stroke. During my challenging journey of recovery, I became preciously aware of how fragile our mortality is, as well as how loving compassion can help a battered body to heal. Thus, when I became strong enough, I felt a calling to share my musical gift with others whose spirits and bodies were suffering a similar physical crisis.

Each time I leave Cedars Sinai Hospital after doing my volunteer service, I feel I have been blessed by the extraordinary encounters, which happen when music is shared heart to heart.
